Hi this is Amanda from WEGO Health and this is using Google+ as a Health Activist Part 1.
So once you have a Google+ account you will see that it is located right among all your other Google accounts, and you'll just click right over there into your Google+ name and you'll see instantly that it is a very clean, different type of social networking site because its not crowded and everything is really easy to find. Let's start by looking at circles in this video. Circles are basically groups and different categories for your followers. Let's create one here called 'Health Activists,' and put in a quick description: 'Folks I know online that love health as much as I do.' And we'll add someone, let's start with Susan. We'll add Susan and create the circle. Now what's really great about circles on Google+ is to add someone to your circle you don't have to scroll through hundreds of followers to add them; you simply click and drag and drop them in. We'll add Marie to this Health Activist circle here. And there it is, and now Marie is added to the circle, and she will recieve a notification saying that Amanda has added her to a circle. It wont say which circle that I added her to, though. That will be private just to you. You'll never have an acquaintance mad that you didn't add them as your friend. So let's go back to the home, and you'll see that all of your circles are lined up under your stream over there on the left hand side, and you can click your friends and you'll just be able to see what your friends have shared and just be able to follow their stream. So let's share something here: 'Hi everyone, I'm on Google+.' Right now it's sharing extended circles, that's everyone in their circles. So let's try something else. We'll just share this post with our Health Activist circle. And you can also share with just individuals, we'll share it with Susan, put her on there. And you can also insert a photo, you can add a video, or you can simply add a link, you can paste that right into the post, and you can add a location also. So we'll share that, and there it is in the stream. And you'll see that its limited; its not shared amongst everyone. And if you click over to the stream there it is, and that's how people will be seeing it in your Health Activist circle. And you'll see that Acquaintances cant see it, its not shared with them.
One of the best things about the stream and circles is that you can edit your posts afterwards. You can also delete them, disable comments, and disable reshare. So that's important for Health Activists, you want to keep things just between them and their community members. So we'll edit this. I'll add a smiley, and what's great is you can also add someone right in the post like you can with Facebook and Twitter, I'll add Marie there to see what she thinks, and I'll share with Marie. You can also hover over and add Marie to a new circle. I'll add her to my following, and there it is.
I want to share a special circle with you that I think Health Activists will really find valuable: the Read Later circle. So I've created this circle to basically put posts that I like and want to read, but just don't have the time to right now. So we'll create that circle, but we wont add anyone to thei particular circle, we'll keep it empty. And there it is, if you go back to your home you'll see that it was added in the sidebar. So here's a great post from Susan. I really want to read it, but I just don't have the time right now. So I'll leave myself a quick note up here and I won't share it with anyone, deselect the sharing. 'Write a blog post about this next week, Amanda!' I say that to myself. And then I'll just share it with tat new circle I've created called 'Read later.' I'll share that, and I see it there, its limited, its only in one circle. Click there, and there it is in my Read Later circle, which is perfect because I can read it later and go back at any time and no one else will be able to see it; its just for me. I'll quickly try sharing another post to see what that looks like, and see here it reminds you just to be really courteous of whoever posted the article or photo that you wanted to share. Just as you would anywhere else on the web, of course always feel free to ask permission of the original poster and always give credit where it is due.
Well that concludes our video on Google+ circles for Health Activism. I look forward to seeing how you've utilized Google+ so far in your Health Communities and which circles you've created to best connect with your members and friends online.
