Is Psychotherapy a Crutch?

Hell no its not a crutch. Its a form of wise council, its a way for anyone to get through troubles in life, and its not whiny and sissy. The fact of the matter is everyone has troubles. Everyone!

Viewing psychotherapy as a crutch or as a sign of weakness is a societal stigma that's been placed on psychotherapy and on mental health issues.

The brain is an organ that needs attention, but it needs a different kind of attention than putting a bandaid on a cut or something like that. Because the brain sort of mysterious and intangible, certainly in a psychological sense, it often is sort of vague for people to figure out how to look at it so that they can get the kind of help that they need.

If you want to think of psychotherapy as a crutch, then think of it as you would in utilizing crutches for a broken leg. We all need some release of the pressure so that we can heal.

Instead of it being a crutch, I think its a gift and I'm glad we have access to it. I wish more people had access to it, frankly, to really good therapists. Unfortunately a lot of people don't.

I think people have a real, they underestimate what psychotherapy is all about. It is definitely not for sissies.

Its not a crutch, nor is getting help for any type of mental illness or emotional difficulties. Its not; I think its showing strength to ask for help.
